When I first heard about Twitter, only a few short months ago, I couldn’t see the use of it. I sat there with an empty page wondering “What do I do now? Who will I follow?” But now I am addicted. Eventually I thought of all the authors, publishers, artists, and illustrators that I admire. I haven’t found all of them on twitter, but I have found many that I love to follow (Like Neil Gaiman).
I like that my Twitter page is just one simple page that I “refresh” and see new “tweets” I love the cute little avatars people create and chose to represent themselves. (Especially the ones from artists) I love that I can create my own background, tell a little about myself in a blurb on the right and have a link to my Etsy store or my blog (or whatever website you choose) I have seen illustrators and authors who customize their background (simple jpeg upload) to announce their latest book or licensing deal, or just as a contact page with art samples.
It’s quick! Just click on the user name - check out their background - their link, like more? Then add a new person “click!”
It IS a time suck….all those fabulous blogs to read! All that lovely art, or news articles…But if you sprinkle it in your day, like the inevitable email check then it’s a quick scan, a quick “tweet” and maybe a quick cup of coffee.
I learn new things every day! Great links to authors…all sorts of amazing sites, breaking news (you can follow the news channels, CNN)
I try to keep self promotion to a minimum…a brand new painting on Etsy, or a new post on my blog. (Some folks REALLY overdo it!) but there is always “unfollow”.
I posted a lot on Earth day (since I have a lot of Earth Day related artwork for teachers and children)…and I felt dirty. LOL…not again.
People DO check out your link. No need to over post your products.
I have made friends of a cyber sort. I LOVE hearing about their studio, family, pets, daily gripes and experiences, and especially celebrating victories!
I am not so alone in my studio these days…when I “listen” to the other folks around the world busy working away (or sneaking that third cup of coffee and some chocolate).
Join us on Twitter!! At least give it a try…
I’m http://www.twitter.com/faraharia or just find “faraharia” under “Find People”
p.s. I hate Facebook and MySpace…it’s an aesthetic thing…

DITTO DITTO DITTO! Even about FaceBook and Myspace, the prime reason I was so dead set against trying twitter. But I'm so glad I did because I adore it.
